Logs are the key
Hammer and SCSI Hammer automatically create fully defensible logs. There is no need for two-person integrity, and manager sign-offs, as all information is tracked automatically, and without the possibility of user intervention. In the event of litigation, it is very important to ensure that a tamper-resistant log (with checksum to demonstrate any changes to the drive after erasure) is available to verify the hard drive(s) in question was/were sanitized in accordance with current guidelines.
Hammer's™ log is available in two ways:
1. Certification labels (printed from optional wireless printer) reflect the following:
Serial number of the hard drive (text and bar code)
Drive model number
Device (Hammer™) Serial Number and firmware version
Erasure process used, and pass/fail
Verification process used, and pass/fail
Start and end time and dates
Checksum (text and bar code)
2. Digital log -The CPR Toolbox log stores all the above information, as well as:
Allows users to assign a "Job" to a group of erasure events
Will create Certificates of Destruction containing unlimited erasure events, and audit information about each event.
