DestructData Secure Erase Certified for Hard Drive Sanitation The Hammer for ATA Hard Drives
The National Association for Information Destruction (NAID) Rules Committee has certified Secure Erase technology as an approved method for electronic data destruction.
The two methods identified for hard drive erasure certification are 1) Secure Erase, a firmware-based technology that activates a pre-existing protocol embedded most ATA hard
drives. DestructData's Hammer, a self-contained, hand-held device, is a secure erase solution.
2) The second method is external overwriting, which uses external software
to overwrite the data on a drive with either ones and zeroes or random characters.
The two methods certified share the advantage of not destroying the hard drive, allowing for re-use or re-cycling.
